The Columbus Explorers wrecked the Admirals winning the contest 24-17.

The first half started off slow, but got hot in the 2nd quarter with three scores, the first 2 from the Explorers. The first score came from the fan’s favorite connection, Josh Dobbs to Dan Arnold, a strike from 14 yards out. Arnold moved into the #1 roll this week. The second score came on a 2 yard run from All-SFL vet, Bruce Miller, to go up 14-0. Columbus went into halftime with a 14-7 lead.

The 2nd half exchanged blows from both teams, with the first blow being another Dobbs touchdown pass, this time to Running Back, Kenyon Drake, making the score 21-7. After an exchanging of field goals and the lead of 24-10 with 6:27 left in the game, it was all but over. The Admirals did give the Explorers a slight scare after recovering their onside kick after scoring a touchdown in garbage time with 38 seconds left.

Sam Hubbard was voted preseason Rookie of the Year and he showed exactly why he deserved that honor in this game leading the defense.

Dobbs improved on his game last week tossing 2 touchdowns and a QB rating of 130.6. Drake went over the 100 mark for the first time this season and scored a receiving touchdown. Arnold led the team in receiving yards for the 2nd straight week, while Tyrone Swoopes took the honor for the most receptions with 4.

Hubbard was all over the field with 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 deflection, 2 stuffs, and 1 forced fumble. Another major factor was Quinton Dial, who led the team with 3 sacks and 9 tackles. David Rivers had the lone interception in the game.

Younghoe Koo is still 100% this season. Jeff Locke was the player of the game on special teams booming punts for an overage of over 50 yards and pinned 3 inside the 20.

The Columbus Explorers go back on on the road in Week 3 to take on the high powered St. Louis Stallions.
