-We could be in store for another long year but don’t panic just yet.

-Inside Info: coaches made a big mistake not tailoring the game plan to Brett Rypien. He’s arguably a better option than Matt Moore but can’t run the exact same offense as the veteran right now.

-One Positive: Isaiah Crowell is still the best in the business getting 80 yards and a touchdown at 4.7 yards per carry despite the Orcas being forced to abandon the run early.

-Monshadrik Hunter: Normally one play doesn’t cost you your job before the first game is even finished but this guy was absolutely destroyed by a runner and from the reaction on the sideline, nobody has his back. He’s a decent prospect out of the CFL who has been a good contributor in Seattle and he was definitely the most talented FS the team had in camp but that doesn’t mean he’s got the build to carry the load in prime time. Hunter probably isn’t done with the team but he definitely won’t be starting next week. Look for somebody with more upside like Shalom Luani or newcomer Kenneth Edison-McGruder to get a long look.

-Pierschbacher’s Debut: It’s hard to say if rookie center Ross Pierschbacher out of Alabama actually won the starting job over somewhat pricy free agent Jake Brendel but his status as a top ten pick means he’s expected to produce sooner rather than later. Coaches might also have been inspired by guard Sukh Chungh’s meteoric rise from veteran benchwarmer to all-pro candidate after being hurled into the fire last season. Whatever the case, things were a bit rough for the rookie. He wasn’t ever blown up by the defender but he didn’t wow anyone either. He also botched two snaps and wound up missing an entire drive with a minor injury, incidentally that happened to be Seattle’s lone touchdown drive.

-Final Thoughts- Zorn and company are going to have to decide very quickly if they need to win now or if they can survive another year of rebuilding. At least Orlando also got their customary opening day embarrassment so we can briefly pretend another dynasty has also fallen.
