The Arena League accepts their fourth team, another southern location in Pensacola, Florida. The team will go by the Pensacola Hornets.

The Hornets will be ran by the ownership group of the Indianapolis Speed and the Miami Mustangs of the Spring Football League.  The team will play all their home games at the Pensacola Bay Center, a 8,049-seat arena, the former home of the Pensacola Barracudas of the defunct AF2.

“The arena game is by far the most exciting of all of football. Nothing like crashing the boards to tackle your opponent and at any time you could drop back and blast a 40-50 yard bomb to tie or win the game.” the Ownership Group stated when asked why they wanted to join the league.

Due to Pensacola being the cradle of Aviation and home to the Navy’s Blue Angels, the Pensacola Hornets is the perfect name to honor the Navy and the City.

“Instead of the typical team names like Jets, Angels, or even Blues, I went with an off name because the Blue Angels fly an F-18B Hornet jet.” said the Ownership Group.

The Arena League is set to be the premiere arena league around the world. The inaugural season will begin directly after the SFL Championship in August with 6 teams around the United States. Two more teams will be announced in the coming weeks.
