The Arena League adds its first international team to their roster, expanding south of the border to Monterrey, Mexico. The team will go by Los Zorros Dorados de Nuevo Leon.
Los Zorros Dorados will be ran by the the former ownership group of the San Antonio Marshalls of the Spring Football League. The team will play all their home games at Arena Monterrey, a 17,599-seat arena, former home of the Monterry Steel arena football team in 2017.
“In my opinion, the SFL needs greater exposure outside the US.” the Ownership Group stated. “I enjoy scouting and giving players another opportunity to make an SFL team in the future, who knows a player out of The Arena League could end up being a Hall of Famer in the SFL someday.”
The new team name was decided upon because of the rich gold history, as in the Seven Cities of Gold and in Nuevo Leon, foxes are indigenous to the area. Thus the name Los Zorros Dorados de Nuevo Leon, aka the Golden Foxes.
“In many cultures, a fox is a symbol of cunning and trickery. Something I hope to bring into the new league.” said the Ownership Group.
The Arena League is set to be the premiere arena league around the world. The inaugural season will begin directly after the SFL Championship in August with 6 teams around the United States. Three more teams will be announced in the coming weeks.
