The Firebirds got burned. A return home to Atlanta was not enough to propel them to victory as the Boston Dragons came away victorious, 34-22.

“It’s a huge letdown. Not a lot else you can say,” said Coach Rob Ryan. “If you want to be a big boy, you’ve got to protect your home turf, and we didn’t do it.”

The offense moved the ball well but couldn’t punch it in, settling for a trio of Wil Lutz chips shots on key drives.

Matt Barkley had a solid game, completing 25 of 39 for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Matt Breida was limited to 55 yards on 14 carries.

Cameron Meredith led the wideouts with 6 catches for 111 yards and a score. Cam Phillips added 3 catches for 13 yards and a score.

Mike Hilton paced the defense with 12 tackles. Aldon Smith added 11 tackles and a sack. Newly-acquired Danielle Hunter added a sack of his own.
