The Youngstown Steel got revenge against their rivals Maryland after losing to them in the season opener.
While it was an ugly and low scoring game, Maryland got off to a hot start, leading the game 10-0 with 11:21 left in the 2nd quarter.Dylan Hecker scored on a 3 yard run with 4:42 left on the clock before halftime to cut the lead within 3.
The Steel defense held strong allowing 0 points and the offense moved the ball just enough in the 2nd half to clinch the win thanks to Daniel Martinez‘s 3 field goals.
This win gives the Steel a 6-5 record during a bumpy win-loss season.
There wasn’t much to write home about on the offensive side of the ball outside of Hecker’s touchdown and Martinez’s field goals. Lamar Jordan led the team in rushing with 58 yards while Nelson Spruce led the team in receiving with 52 yards.
After giving up 10 points in the first half, the defense was dominant fro the on. Jamar Summers had Crab’s QB John Wolford on lockdown, picking him off twice. Jason Neill, as usual, led the team in tackles (9), stuffs (3) and sacks (1).
The Youngstown Steel play at home once again in Week 13 as they take on the Fox Valley Flying Squirrels, who they defeated earlier in the season.
