The Youngstown Steel showed the crowd what the hometown team can do in a 27-13 win over the Shreveport-Bossier Freedom.

Although it took a while for the Steel to get started, once Christian Hackenberg threw a 12 yard strike to Lamar Jordan in the 2nd quarter, they scored in every quarter after that.

Jimmy Ralph and Dylan Hecker added touchdowns to the Steel’s cause in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Hecker’s from 2 yards out and Ralph’s from 1 yard out. Daniel Martinez added 2 field goals in the 4th quarter to round up the scoring fest.

This win gives the Steel a 6-5 record during a bumpy win-loss season.

Jordan is easily on pace to be nominated as the team’s MVP this season as he leads the team in rushing and receiving yards. Other standouts in this game were the hometown hero, former Penguin Kevin Rader who led the team in receiving. Although Hackenberg only had 168 yards through the air, he had a 126.7 passer rating.

Andy Smigiera had his 2nd straight interception game while Luke Carrezola added another. Jason Neill added another sack to his resume, this one a strip fumble.

On Special Teams, former Rutgers punter, Ryan Anderson, had an outstanding 48.3 average with a long of 51.

The Youngstown Steel are back at home in Week 12 while taking on the division rival, the Maryland Crabs, who beat the Steel in the season opener.
