The Youngstown Steel officially have their first winning record of the season.
The Steel started strong and never looked back in a dominant 44-17 win over Evansville. The red and grey were up 27-3 at halftime thanks to 2 field goals by Daniel Martinez, a 53 yard run by Lamar Jordan, a 43 yard interception touchdown by Jamar Summers, and a 3 yard pitch and catch from Christian Hackenberg to Dylan Hecker
In the second half, the Steel slowed down a little bit, but capped off the day with 2 touchdown runs by Hecker and Fullback, Johnny Stanton, along with another field goal from Martinez with 1:55 left in the game adding insult to injury.
This was the highest scoring game from the Steel this season.
The offense was led once again by Jordan, the former college QB who is leading the team in rushing. He led the team in receptions and rushing yards from his dual role at Running Back and Wide Receiver.
John Franklin III won MVP in the game due mainly to his special team performance having 175 return yards while adding 5 tackles to the mix. Andy Smigiera led the team in tackles, while Jason Neill had a sack, and Weston Steelhammer and Summers had an interception
The Youngstown Steel play are back on the road in Week 10 as they take a trip to paradise in Puerto Rico.
